For our audience

For a donation of $15, you will receive food from local restaurants and an opportunity to vote on your favorite of four presentations ranging from art, urban agriculture, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and more. You can ask questions of the presenters, eat, talk with your neighbors and share any helpful resources for the community.

At the end of the night, we count the ballots and the winner goes home with all of the money raised to carry out their project to benefit the community.

Come to the Event

"SOUP is not about pushing a brand, a trend, a product, or a business strategy. SOUP is not a topical event where we sit in circles of like-minded individuals who want just art, or farming, or technology, or small businesses to succeed. It is convening all of these previously siloed people together and having a conversation about what matters." - Amy Kaherl (Detroit SOUP)

By showing up, you are participating in creating a place for people to gather around the community and grant money towards a deserving project through a democratic process and critical conversation.

Enjoy Food from Local Businesses

Eating at local restaurants is a powerful way to support and strengthen the fabric of our communities. When we choose to dine at local restaurants, cafes, and eateries, we are directly contributing to the local economy. These businesses often reinvest a significant portion of their earnings back into the community through job creation, sourcing ingredients from local farmers and producers, and paying taxes that fund essential services. Moreover, local businesses foster a sense of place and cultural identity.

It's a small but impactful way to invest in the place we call home and ensure Durham remains vibrant, unique, and sustainable for generations to come.

Listen to Pitches

You bring a diverse set of experiences and perspectives to Durham Community Incubator. Young and old, different social and ethnic groups, nonprofit organizations, religious groups, business leaders, artists, farmers, coffee shop goers and any other residents of Durham are welcome and have a place at our table.

The goal of our dinner as an audience is to sit together and change the way we think about democracy, community, development, and entrepreneurship.

4

Vote for an idea to come to life

Your vote matters! Through this dinner, we are empowering residents to foster critical dialogue and promote action and change. We hope to instill neighborhood pride in Durham and to increase participation in entrepreneurship across a diverse group of people. In voting, you are actively putting your money towards an idea that you think has potential to change the community for the better.
